Bringing Firearms to South Africa

Hunters traveling to South Africa may bring their own firearms or opt for rifle hire. If bringing your own, you'll need a SAPS 520 Temporary Import Permit.

Required Documents:

  • Valid passport
  • Flight itinerary

  • Invitation letter from outfitter

  • Customs declaration documents

Ammunition Transport: Ammunition must be declared and transported in accordance with airline and customs regulations. Check with your airline for specific requirements.

Rifle Hire Option: If you prefer not to travel with firearms, we offer quality rifle hire services with a selection of calibers suitable for African game.

Bow Hunting in Africa

Your Health and Safety

Medical Facilities: We are located within reach of quality medical facilities. All hunting vehicles carry comprehensive first-aid kits.

Recommended Vaccinations: Consult your physician regarding vaccinations for travel to South Africa. Common recommendations include Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Tetanus.

Drinking Water: Clean, safe drinking water is provided at all lodges and in the field.

Planning Your Safari

Everything You Need Before You Depart

The MASANA team will guide you through every step of planning your safari adventure. Follow this comprehensive checklist to ensure a seamless and unforgettable experience.

Choose Your Safari Dates

Contact MASANA to discuss preferred hunting dates, species, and lodge availability. Book well in advance for peak season.

Reserve Your Safari

Non-refundable deposit of US $3,000 required to confirm reservation and secure safari dates.

Complete Your Safari Documentation

Complete and return all required booking documents: safari agreement, guest information form, indemnity form, and any additional documentation.

Check Your Passport

Passport must be valid for at least six (6) months beyond scheduled departure from South Africa and contain a minimum of two blank pages.

Travelling with Children (Under 18)

Ensure latest South African entry requirements are met. Additional documentation may be required. Confirm requirements well before departure.

Book Your International Flights

Book flights into O.R. Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg - JNB) and forward complete flight itinerary including airline, flight numbers, arrival/departure dates and times, and connecting flights.
