1. When is the best time for hunting in South Africa?
In South Africa, we hunt year-round, but for trophy hunting, safaris are conducted from March to October. It is not the rule, but the cooler weather and sparser bush makes for better hunting conditions than during the summer. Mornings are generally cold and warm up during the days (45°F – 80°F). Rain is unusual for these months.
2. How do I get to South Africa?
It is only one flight away from home. Both Delta and United airlines offer straight flights daily to OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg.
3. Do USA citizens need a VISA to travel to South Africa?
No, USA citizens do not need any VISAS, just a valid passport.
4. Can I bring my own rifle?
It is not mandatory to bring your own rifle, as you can hire a rifle from your guide. If you do prefer to bring your own rifle you will need a Temporary Import Firearm Permit. We recommend that you make use of the service from RiflePermits who has been assisting hunters from all over the world for many years.
5. Is it safe in South Africa and do I need any shots / vaccines?
No shots are required when travelling to South Africa. All our hunting areas are malaria-free zones. Food is excellent and drinking water is bottled. Lindilè Safaris will not place risk on your health or safety.
South Africa is also a safe country. Upon arrival at OR Tambo International Airport, your guide will meet you and drive straight to camp which is about 3 hours’ drive up north on our country’s finest highway.
6. How big are the hunting areas?
Majority of hunting land in South Africa are in the hands of private owners. We have access to over 100 000 acres, but hunting concessions ranges from 3000 – 15 000 acres.
7. How far is the nearest doctor / Hospital?
The nearest medical facilities are 1 Hour's drive away.
8.Can I charge my batteries?
Plug adapters – Adapter for 220 V electricity. 3-Pronged round hole and 2-pronged round hole plugs. You may bring adapters for electronic devices and charging.
9. Is there cell service at the lodge?
Very limited cell and internet services available at the lodge. Make sure you contact your cell service provider prior to your safari to get set up for your duration in South Africa.
10.Can I bring my family?
Yes, your family is more than welcome to join in on your hunting safari. Our hunting area is very remote, a long way from towns and cities. Keep in mind that the ladies that enjoy a trip such as this are avid hunters themselves. We do offer daily excursions in the area.
11.What to pack?
- Raincoat
- Odourless sunscreen
- A good hat
- Three sets of hunting clothes, khaki, or camo
- A thick jacket, as it gets cold during winter evenings
- Gloves, and possibly a scarf
- Two pairs of well-worn and comfortable walking boots with thick socks
- Personal medication
- A good camera and enough memory / charger
- Camcorders are welcome and remember battery recharge equipment
- Rifle and cleaning equipment (no semi-automatic rifles are allowed into the country)
- Ammunition
- Binoculars
- If you are so inclined to keep a diary of your hunting exploits, bring it along
